Jim Cole is a music video director who has worked for the likes of U2, Madonna, Lily allen and lots of other versitile groups and artists. He has a brilliant creative mind and can almost instantly come up with ideas as we found out. He came to see our animatic and offered up some brilliant ideas and advice.
Initially he was very excited about the video concept we had and was keen to see the animatic. On first seeing it he had already developed some of the ways we could build on our shots and concepts. It is important (he said) to show reason from the very beginining of the mean guys downfall. To do this we have to show his arrogance and his personality from the very first flashback. And so in the closeups we need to portray his attitude in his expressions etc.
Another point he gave us is to create an atmosphere in the performance scene by just having 10 pairs of hands in the long shots clapping along to the song, so this is something we are going to add into our storyboards for when we do the filming in the pheonix (new date to be confirmed for after half term).
His main advice was to "strip all the fat and get straight into the story", and this means showing how he is arrogant and implications of why he is where he is now, busking. This means we have decided all the way through out the flashbacks he will be shown as an arrogant person who is a big too big for his shoes. One example is in the beach scene, he is going to be the one who is most drunk and instead of just cuddling up to the girl he will be kind of smothering her and making her a bit uncomfortable with his drunk silliness.

The most valuable advice he gave which is really important are changes we should make in our shooting schedule:
1. in order to get the best shots of him busking we should do these shots at the end of the day in the dark, this means we get the light from the streetlights and this creates a more lonely feeling for the busker.
2. Also to do the funfair in the evening to use the neons as an effect, however we are leaving location at 8 so it may have to be a dismissed idea.
3. There is a "magic 10 minutes" between 5.50 and 6 in which the sun is setting, and so this is the time we should film vita and stefan on the beach. This means we should set up and practice from 5 untill 5.45 and film in those 10 minutes and untill 6.15 and get all the shots we need. this needs lots of organising.
